A little competition is fun for everyone, especially in the exciting and action-packed atmosphere of a freestyle snowboard competitions. Snowboards comps are not like football games or hockey matches; there’s no one yelling at you, and no big expectations. Usually they are more or less informal events that feature a day of great riding on jumps or rails, hanging out with other snowboarders, and competing for fun prizes. A special jump is built just for the competition with extra attention from the park team, so the riding is sure to be great.
If you want to try a relaxed, fun, snowboard event that is open to all, consider going up to Waterville Valley for the 2009-2010 Little Slammer Series. The competition dates are Dec. 28 and Jan. 24, with the final on Feb. 14. The competition will be divided into two categories––the Little Slam, for riders 16 and under, and the Big Slam. The Little Slam is free, and the Big Slam is $5 and open to all riders. The overall points winner from the Little Slam will win a snowboard, and the Big Slam points winner will receive a sponsorship from Waterville Valley, including a season pass. There are also weekly prizes, but the most important thing is that everybody has fun and gets stoked to ride at their highest level. Waterville is a easy shot from Boston and a favorite with young riders, so the event is sure to be a good time for all.
