The Early Ski Area Openings Continue–Bretton Woods Lifts Are Turning!

Posted by David Shedd on November 22, 2010 in Alpine Skiing/Snowboarding, Destinations, New Hampshire, News, Snowsports
Yes, this image is from THIS year...Bretton Woods is open for skiing! (Bretton Woods photo)

Hard on the heels of Sugarloaf ‘s opening yesterday came news that Bretton Woods is opening today, giving them bragging rights as the first ski area in New Hampshire to open this year.  Long famous for the huge dumps of snow they get due to their position at the base of Mt. Washington, recently enhanced snowmaking (yes, including fan guns) and some cooler weather has allowed them to get 5 trails open for today.  With more cool nights coming, they’re hoping to open more terrain as quickly as possible; updates on the trail situation can be found here.

Tickets between now and Thanksgiving are $39 adults, $35 teens 13-17, $30 5-12, and $25 for seniors 65+.  Obviously, come Thursday, the rates go up, and stay up for the holiday weekend.  Another option is their “Stay Here, Ski Free” package, which includes lodging at the Omni Mount Washington Hotel for $99/pp (if you’ve never stayed there, you’re in for a treat; it’s a stunning place with an incredible sense of history).

We can’t speak for the conditions at Bretton Woods, as we haven’t been up there yet, but if they’re anything like what we saw in Maine yesterday…get out there, and take advantage of the early snow to get your legs ready for the long days to come!
