September 26, 2009, Sunday River blows the first snow of the 2009/10 Season!
If you just can’t wait to see snow, maybe you should consider a visit to Newry, Maine, where Sunday River has made the FIRST SNOW of the 2009-10 Winter Season! In 2008-09, the resort purchased 75 Boyne Low-Energy fan guns that allow more snow to be made at marginal temperatures while using less energy. The fan guns were tested Saturday morning, September 26, in the South Ridge area, near the new Chondola lift.
The test was a success; the resort is ready to begin making snow for the season as soon as consistently cold temperatures are in the forecast. Last winter they tested snowmaking on October 19 and were the first resort on the East Coast to open for a second year in a row on Halloween.
Keep your fingers crossed for cold weather and Think Snow!
Sunday River will be celebrating their 50th Birthday on December 19–be prepared for a party . . .
